A lockdown was put in place in a school in Norwell Monday morning, and a lockdown was averted at a school in Abington.

In Norwell, The South Shore Charter Pulbic School on Longwater Drive went into lockdown just before 9:00 a.m. because a bullet casing was found in the front hall.

Norwell police along with members of Metro-LEC and a ballistics k-9 searched the school, but no additional ammunition or firearms were found.

The school was released from lockdown at 12:00  noon.

Then, just after 12:30 p.m.,  Abington’s Center Street Elementary School was in the process of being notified to go into lockdown, as a precaution, because of a developing situation, but Abington police were able to resolve it peacefully.

Police say a suicidal man, armed with a shotgun, was in a nearby building. He was taken into custody without incident, but several other guns were found in his home.

No one was hurt and police say he had no connection to the Abington school..
