IN GOLF AS IN LIFE IT’S ALL ABOUT ONE’S MENTAL APPROACH!
This week’s MUST HAVE is PGA AND LPGA TOUR Putting and Short game guru Dave Stockton’s newest book “Own Your Game – How to Use Your Mind to Play Winning Golf.”
In this latest release, the third in a series (Unconscious Putting, Unconscious Scoring), Dave teamed up with contributing author Golf Digest Senior Writer Matthew Rudy. Fellow golfer Paul Azinger penned the forward.
The hallmark of Dave’s coaching is “trying doesn’t work!” He teaches his students to hit their shots as they would sign a signature – with the unconscious mind, giving the amateur golfer the freedom to learn to play better with their current swing.
“Own your game” is easy to understand for the beginner and amateur golfers of all skill levels, a great read for those who golf for business purposes too. Providing plenty of techniques such as calmness, confidence, concentration and visualization, Dave also touches upon how to understand one’s emotions while playing the game of golf – a factor which can make or break your game.
Some of the top names in golf turn to Dave for advice on their short games such as Phil Mickelson, Annika Sorenstam, Yani Tseng and Rory McIlroy.
LPGA Star, Taiwanese golfer Yani Tseng has worked with Stockton as well as a number of other mental coaches throughout her career. Tseng is the youngest golfer ever – male or female to win 5 Major Championships. She ranked #1 in the world for 109 consecutive weeks from 2011-13. Incidentally Tseng was named on Time Magazine’s list of “The Most Influential People in the World in 2012.”
Dave has been working with Rory McIlroy on his mental approach and short game techniques for a number of years. Rory once said, “Without Dave, I don’t know if I could have gone on this run, winning the US Open and reaching the top of the World Rankings.” At one point Dave even helped Rory with his on course “body language” during competition.
Currently Ranked #10 in the World, Rory McIlroy had his best finish ever at this year’s Masters Tournament ~ T8th. When I asked Dave about Rory’s difficult time after signing a lucrative endorsement deal with Nike golf in 2013, he concluded that of course Rory’s mental game issues have been a huge factor the past few seasons, how could they not affect his play?
“Own Your Game” is now available in Hardcover, eBook and Deluxe e-Edition with 16 videos. Hardcover list price $25.00, Kindle edition – $9.99. Find a wealth of information or to purchase any of Dave’s books go to www.stocktongolf.com
