Carver: Town Meeting to address fire station and elementary school projects and a meals tax

Town meeting season on the south shore wraps up with tonight’s Carver Annual Town meeting.

In addition to the budget, a number of other articles on the 27 article warrant are expected to generate discussion and controversy.

Article 12, if it passes, would impose a 0.75% tax on restaurant meals. This tax is expected to amount to about $100,000 annually, much of it coming from tourists at Edaville Railroad and King Richard’s Faire.

Article 16 is for preliminary work on a new fire station and training center on Main Street.

Article 17 is for a feasibility study for the rehabilitation, reconstruction or addition to the existing elementary school, and/or the construction of a new elementary school.

Article 25 is a zoning bylaw change regarding special requirements for medical marijuana facilities in town,

Town meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at Carver High School.

If all the warrant articles aren’t addressed tonight, Craver Town Meeting will continue tomorrow night.

About David Skill

Dave Skill’s radio career began in the fall of 1964 when he arrived on the campus of Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA. Dave barely got his bags unpacked when he paid a visit to WCHC, the campus radio station. And, before he knew it, he was spending so much time as a disc jockey and news writer/reporter, it seemed like he was majoring in “radio” and minoring in academics at “The Cross”. As you might imagine, his grades reflected it! During his junior and senior years, he also worked weekends in news and as a disc jockey at WNEB, the CBS radio affiliate in Worcester at the time.
