Weymouth: Town council approves Legion Field renovation – high school turf replacement

The Weymouth Town Council met Monday night and unanimously voted to approve borrowing in the form of a $6,000,000 bond for a full renovation of Legion Field featuring new artificial turf, as well as the replacement of the artificial turf at the high school football field.

In his motion, Town Council Vice-President Michael Smart listed the improvements to Legion Field.

“Renovating the Legion Field athletics area, including the development of new parking facilities, construction of tennis courts, development of a children’s play area, construction of an artificial turf field, development of running and walking trails, landscaping in and around the facilities and the installation of related field and security lighting, and replacing the artificial turf on the high school football field.”

Weymouth Town Council President Patrick O’Connor said now is the time for the Legion Field project.

“It’s been something that we campaigned on, that we told constituents that we’d get done, and finally we are here, right now saying alright, this is the time to put back this gem that we once had in this community back into function, as well with the turf field at the high school.”
