Scituate: Selectman Rick Murray turns in resignation

Scituate Selectman Rick Murray announced his resignation from the Board of Selectmen at their meeting Tuesday night.

Murray isn’t leaving Scituate, or his job as a Professor at Boston University, but he has been named as the Division Director of Ocean Sciences at the federal government’s National Science Foundation.

Murray has been serving as a Scituate Selectmen for the past 8 years.

“You know it’s been a privilege to be here and I’ve grown so much as a person, working with this board and previous boards and all the citizens in this town. It’s been one of my proudest and warmest feelings I have of my 50 year young life,” Murray said.

Scituate Selectman Chair John Danahey said Murray has done a lot for the town and will be missed.

“He’s dedicated himself for longer than eight years. He was on the Waterways Committee for four years prior – a total of twelve years. You know, when you give public service, the measure of your value is not when you join the board, it’s what you’ve left the board with, and he certainly has done an awful lot as far as giving value to the town and pushing the town in a different direction than it was when he first started.”

Murray’s resignation begins effective next Monday.
