Rockland: Fire destroys former town water department building, garage

An overnight fire in Rockland went to a second alarm before crews were able to get that blaze under control.

Firefighters responded just after midnight to report of a garage fire at 96 East Water Street. The site, which is now vacant, is the former home of the town’s water department headquarters.

Crews encountered heavy fire upon arriving as the blaze extended from the garage to the main structure. It took nearly two hours but firefighters were able to knock down the fire.

The caused the blaze is not known at this time and is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
