Part of Rte. 3 on the South Shore is about to become a construction zone, as a $12 million project to resurface the road and repair several bridges is poised to begin.
The work will be done on a four-mile stretch on both sides between Union St. in Braintree to Rte. 18 in Weymouth.
MassDOT spokesman Mike Verseckes told WATD the renovation will begin right after Labor Day, mainly between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., to minimize the effect on traffic.
The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2015.
