It’s the biggest freshwater wetlands restoration effort in the state’s history. It’s at Tidmarsh Farms in Plymouth….and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matt Beaton was there to announce a nearly one million dollar federal grant.

Glorianna Davenport and Evan Shulman sold their agricultural rights to the 250-acre site through a federal wetlands restoration program, allowing the property to return to the wetland it once was.

State Senator Vinny deMacedo says it’s a big deal: “We have done a lot in regards to land preservation in the Town of Plymouth, but you can’t do it without the support of individuals and, for Glorianna and Evan who have allowed Tidmarsh Farm to go back to its natural habitat, is a big deal. But you do need support from the federal government, from the state.”

Secretary Beaton agrees: “It really was a collaborative effort by federal partners and the state as well. It’s a very impactful project, not only for the town of Plymouth, but the entire Commonwealth.”

And the impact will be significant, says Alex Hackman, Fish and Game Department Restoration specialist: “You’re going to have more birds, more insects, more frogs, more turtles. And this is a great site for turtles with all the undeveloped forest land around.”
