Boston: Brockton Child Shot in Dorchester

A Brockton youngster and a 20-year-old man have been hospitalized after being shot in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood.

Boston police say the 7-year-old child, identified by relatives as Divan Silva, was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital Sunday with non-life threatening injuries. The unidentified 20-year-old man was grazed and taken to Boston Medical Center.

Both were shot at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Boston police Superintendent-in-Chief William Gross said the child was shot in the buttocks while riding his bicycle to a market. He was visiting relatives who live nearby.

The suspect fled on foot and police said he was wearing a red sweatshirt and tan pants.

Gross urged residents to reject a “no snitching” code of conduct and contact police with information.
