Abington: Woman Drives Car into New England Art Building, is Charged with DUI

Abington Police say a Rockland woman was drunk when she drove her car into the New England Art Building.

Police received reports of a car accident at around 1 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 24) at the New England Art Building on Birch Street.

Officer Brian Solimini arrived and found a car had veered off the roadway, struck a stop sign, and proceeded another 20 feet, where it struck the building head-on, doing significant damage to a set of stairs.

The operator, Michelle Viglas of Rockland, was standing outside her car with her keys still in the ignition, and the car still in drive.

Officer Solimini determined Viglas had been driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and also charged with operating a motor vehicle to endanger, as well as a marked lanes violation.
