Plymouth: Groundbreaking For Town Hall Complex

New Town Hall 1820 Court House (2)

Plymouth town officials pitched shovels into the ground to celebrate the official start of construction of the new town hall complex at the 1820 Courthouse site.

At 3:00 Friday afternoon at the back of the courthouse, in the ruins of the demolished Commissioners’ building, Selectmen Chair Ken Tavares spoke about this milestone in the town’s history:  “It’s exciting, the first time we’ve put up a new building since the first fort was constructed as a government meeting center—it’s going to certainly be the front door to the Plymouth community.”

It won’t be long before that front door is open, says Building Committee Chair, David Peck, although we’re only at the beginning:  “The beginning is our ground breaking with the starting of our structural supports within the next couple of weeks and we’re still fully on schedule to be completed in the spring or early summer of 2017.

And Town Manager Melissa Arrighi is looking forward to that:  ”I think for me, it’s hard to get as excited as you do when you see all the people that showed up today and how enthusiastic they were, but boy, I can’t wait for the ribbon cutting.”
