Duxbury: Senior Center Expansion on Selectmen’s Agenda

Senior citizen issues will be in the spotlight at tonight’s Duxbury Selectmen’s meeting.

Town Manager Rene Read says Joanne Moore from the town’s senior center will appear before the board about a feasibility study.

“They’re proposing an addition in the next couple of years to that facility, which we anticipate will be a remarkable project,” Read told WATD.

“Our senior center is currently rated as one of the top 3 in the United States and they run some outstanding programs. The time has come to expand the program because of the number of user that we have. We have a very active senior population and they gravitate toward the place quite often. It’s a busy, humming place for at least 12 to 14 hours a day.”

So what will this cost?

“We’re anticipating around a $2 million project, but we expect there will be some donations made as a result of the project moving forward,” said Read.

The board will also discuss rate setting for the Health Insurance Senior Plan.

About David Skill

Dave Skill’s radio career began in the fall of 1964 when he arrived on the campus of Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA. Dave barely got his bags unpacked when he paid a visit to WCHC, the campus radio station. As you might imagine, his grades reflected it! During his junior and senior years, he also worked weekends in news and as a disc jockey at WNEB, the CBS radio affiliate in Worcester at the time...
