WATD’s Bob Gohl learning how to use a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire at Marshfield Fire Dept.’s Open House on Saturday, October 15, 2016

The Marshfield Central Fire Station on South River Rd. was the place to be on Saturday from 11-2 when firefighters put on displays of their equipment and talked to children and families about fire safety in our homes and in our lives.

The kids had a wonderful time being able to climb up on, explore and touch the trucks and practice safety escapes — they also got a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog from the Duxbury Fire Department.

Lieutenant Patrick Smith spoke with WATD’s Bob Gohl about the Open House and about last week – National Fire Prevention Week:

Lt. Smith also discussed the importance of safety escape plans:

Lt. Smith talked also about fire safety when cooking:

Papa Gino’s donated pizzas for Saturday’s open house and Marshfield Auto Body donated two cars for the firefighters to use the Jaws of Life on to show how to get injured people of a damaged car.

The firefighters visited all the schools in Marshfield last week and went over fire safety rules, prevention and how to escape a fire.
