Pembroke: Schools Hire Full-Time Resource Officer

There is a new addition to Pembroke Community Middle School and High School.

A full-time school resource officer will be splitting time between the two schools to provide additional guidance for the kids.

Pembroke Chief of Police Rick Wall spoke about the importance of creating a trust between students and police.

“They’re the bridge between law enforcement; to be a mentor, to be in a leadership role, just to be a friend and a good role model. For us to have that many students and be able to have an officer in contact with them on a day to day basis, this is vital. The schools are a microcosm of our community and what goes on in the school goes on in our community,” said Wall.

Currently, there are five Pembroke officers who occasionally visit the other schools in the Pembroke system.

The full-time school resource officer will begin work after Christmas vacation.
