Hingham: Five Arrests Made in iPhone Thefts

An adult and four teenagers are charged with stealing display phones from the Apple store in Hingham.

The arrests were made Thursday night after police said the group grabbed at least 20 phones from the store at Derby St. Shoppes.

Store workers say the five pulled the security cables from the iPhones and ran out the door toward a wooded area near Rte. 3.

They were arrested a short time later after being spotted in a car on a dead-end street, and investigators say there were several phones in the car.

The adult, 20-year-old Derrell Williams of Boston, is free on bail and will be back in court tomorrow.

That’s when the others involved, including three teenage girls from Boston and a teenage boy from Chelsea, will also appear.

Hingham police say the theft is similar to one that happened in early September in which roughly two dozen iPhones were taken, though no charges have been filed in that case.
