Protesters opposed to President-elect Donald Trump rallied outside the Massachusetts Statehouse as members of the state’s Electoral College prepared to cast their votes for Hillary Clinton.
Organizers said similar protests were planned in state capitals around the U.S. on Monday, with Trump all but assured of winning the nationwide electoral vote.
The 11 Democratic electors from Massachusetts are pledged to Clinton, who easily carried the state and who won the U.S. popular vote by about 2.6 million votes.
Several of the state’s electors said they would support a change in the Electoral College system so that in the future, the popular vote winner would be guaranteed the presidency.
The electors are scheduled to cast their votes later Monday in the House of Representatives chamber at the Statehouse.
