Plymouth: Medical Marijuana Facility First to Apply for Recreational License

Medical Marijuana of Massachusetts is set to sell its product this winter. It has a license, secure grow facility in the Plymouth Industrial Park and a dispensary in the same building. Plymouth Town Meeting gave selectmen authority to approve up to four recreational marijuana facilities in town. Medical Marijuana of Massachusetts was the first to apply. The company’s chief operating officer Kevin O’Reilly.

“We applied for a recreational license because we are the only licensed facility in Plymouth to sell medical and we believe if recreational is going to be sold in Plymouth it should be done right and we believe we’re the firm that will do it right, and correctly, and look out for the best interest of the community,” said O’Reilly.

But at Tuesday night’s selectmen’s meeting, no one made a motion to approve or disapprove the license. Selectmen hinted they prefer to wait for the state’s cannabis control commission to issue regulations. A vocal opponent of controlled retail sales of cannabis in Plymouth hinted at a signature campaign to put a possible ban on the ballot.
