Scituate: Selectmen Approve of Taser Purchase for Police Department

The Scituate Police Department is purchasing tasers for their officers after a unanimous vote by the board of selectmen.

Scituate Police Chief Brian Stewart met with the board of selectmen Tuesday night to present a contract with a taser company to purchase the weapons.

The board voted unanimously in favor of purchasing the tasers and Chief Stewart says the tasers will be a better option than pepper spray.

Chief Stewart says every officer will need to go through training for the tasers and the department should have them within the next two months.

The Scituate Police Department will purchase 45 new taser guns at a cost of just over $98,000.
