Quincy: Man Arrested After Bank Robbery

A Quincy man is facing charges in connection with a bank robbery.

Quincy Police say officers were sent to the Bank of America at 1400 Hancock St. at around 11 a.m. Friday over a report of an armed robbery.

Officers were told that a white man who appeared to be in his fifties, demanded money from a teller, claiming that he had a gun.

He then fled the scene.

It was learned that the teller placed a GPS tracker in with the money.

After following the tracker it was determined that the suspect was heading toward the Neponset Bridge.

Traffic was then stopped at Hancock St. and Newport Ave. Extension and officers began walking past the vehicles at which point they noticed a man matching the robber’s description in the back seat of a taxi.

Police say the suspect, 54-year-old James Murphy, was then ordered out of the vehicle and confessed to the robbery as he was being handcuffed.

He claimed the money was in his pocket and $840 was recovered.

No gun was found.

Murphy was taken to Quincy police headquarters where he was booked for Armed Robbery.
