Bridgewater: Apartment Fire Under Investigation

Bridgewater Police Chief and Fire Chief have opened an investigation after a fire that broke out in a downtown apartment building was deemed suspicious.

On Saturday at approximately 10:45 pm a called reported a fire on the second floor roof of a three and a half story building located at 40 Central Square.

The ground floor is occupied by commercial space, and 18 apartments on the second and third floors.

About 20 residents were evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

A preliminary investigation showed that the blaze started after a pile of clothes was set on fire and put on the second floor roof.

As the investigation continues, anyone with information is asked to call the Bridgewater Police Department.
