Whitman Police and Hanson Police have issued a joint statement saying there was no credible threat against Whitman-Hanson Regional High School.
Whitman Police received a message around 10 a.m. Thursday that a 16-year-old student had been making threats to shoot up the high school.
The two departments immediately launched a joint investigation into the matter.
The student was located, interviewed, and although he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, no charges have been filed.
Police say that students and faculty weren’t in danger, but they provided an extra presence at the school on Friday out of an abundance of caution.
The fire alarm at the school did sound shortly before 10 a.m. Friday and the school was evacuated.
It was then determined that a trip switch on a sprinkler valve failed, causing the alarm to go off.
Students were let back in roughly ten minutes later and were dismissed at 10:15 a.m. as part of a scheduled early release day.
