Kingston: Proposal to Build 300 Apartments and a Hotel at the Mall

The trend in retail is to online and away from enclosed malls. When Sears closed many of its stores three years ago, one of the closures was at the enclosed mall in Kingston. Other losses followed. The mall’s owner, Pyramid Management, renamed it The Kingston Collection and shifted the emphasis from retail to dining and entertainment. It has a variety of restaurants, a gym, bowling, an indoor race track. Pyramid wants to go further by adding 300 apartments in the Sears space and a hotel in the space vacated by Best Buy.

Here’s Pyramid’s Director of Governmental Relations David Aiken.

A special town meeting June 26th will conspire the zoning changes the project needs. It will then go to planning and zoning boards. There’s still no plan to replace Filene’s Basement, part of the original mall when it opened 29 years ago.
