A Dorchester man is facing gun and drug charges following his arrest in Weymouth.

Massachusetts State Police say the arrest took place around 7:50 p.m. Sunday when a trooper saw a Chevrolet Malibu commit motor vehicle violations.

The vehicle was stopped on East St. and, after an investigation, it was determined that the passenger, 31-year-old Jonathan Mena-Hernandez, was in possession of a firearm and substances believed to be cocaine and marijuana.

He was then placed into custody and troopers located a .380 9mm handgun, with the serial number obliterated, inside the vehicle.

State Police say Mena-Hernandez doesn’t have a license to carry a firearm in Massachusetts.

Mena-Hernandez was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Quincy District Court on charges of Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number: Possession/Carrying a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm without FID card; Store Improperly a Firearm; Possession of Class B Drug and Possession of Class D Drug.
