HANOVER – Thousands from around the world made their way to the South Shore this past weekend, all hoping to simply be in the presence of two individuals.

That would be Kyrie Irving & Jayson Tatum, who were at Starland Sportsplex & Fun Park hosting a rare training session in conjunction with ProCamps. A Cincinnati-based organization, ProCamps allows aspiring young athletes the opportunity to train alongside star athletes from leagues throughout the United States.
“There’s so many different individuals to thank,” Irving said to the crowd on site. “But I try to utilize this opportunity, and this moment once again to tell all the parents that I’m truly appreciative of you guys bringing your kids here. Because honestly you don’t have to, but I know that you want to because of your kid’s drive to be whatever they strive to be in this world. I’m all for that advocate.”

Students ranging from first graders to high school seniors would travel from across the country to Hanover to see the two Celtics stars.
Some even flew in from overseas.
“I was told that some came over all the way from China,” Starland managing partner & owner Frank Teixeira said. “I’m not kidding.”
It was only the latest set of star athletes which ProCamps has partnered with to host a weekend of sessions. Teixeira was more than welcome to accommodate.
“My understanding is that (ProCamps) reached out to us,” Teixeira said. “They wanted a venue that could host a big event. We had eight courts, they set up a ninth court on the turf, and it came to us that way. It was just one conversation with the people that mattered, and we pulled it off.”
And if you missed out on the camp, there will be more opportunities coming. Starland is expected to host another ProCamps weekend this summer, possibly with another beloved member of the Celtics making their way to town.
“There is another one scheduled the third week of August right now, so more details will follow pretty shortly,” Teixeira said. “Particularly because this was so successful, I expect that the details will be out shortly.”
