Hingham: Miss Plymouth County Gives Back Crown Because of #MeToo Joke

Hingham native, Maude Gorman, who won the Miss Plymouth County beauty pageant, has given back her crown after a cause that is important to her was the punchline of a joke at a Miss Massachusetts competition.

Gorman has worked with several outreach programs for survivors of sexual abuse, such as Jane Doe Inc., and the Center for Hope and Healing in Lowell.

And in addition to being strong emotionally and mentally, she is also a sky runner who has just qualified for the U.S. Skyrunning team.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with the term sky-running, it is an extreme sport of mountain running above 6,600 feet where the incline exceeds 30%.

Gorman says moving forward she has a lot of plans to continue advocating for victims of sexual assault and hopes that any survivor who hears her story knows they’re not alone and are encouraged to reach out for help.
