From Me to You

This whole radio thing makes no sense at all. I was a shy kid who grew up to be a shy adult. So if you asked anyone I went to school with if I’d choose radio as a career they would have laughed out loud. At any rate, I got bitten by the radio bug in college. My first job in radio was at a small station in Maine. It was actually two trailers jammed together.  Day one on the job I heard a rooster crow outside the studio. It took an hour to get to Filene’s. Uh…no. So I moved back to the South Shore and lucky for me Ed Perry had just put WATD on the air in Marshfield. I was hired part time and a few months later when a DJ shift opened up I got it. Before I knew it forty years had flown by.

I’ve been so lucky to be able to do what I love. If I try to thank everyone I’ve worked with over the years I know I’ll leave someone’s name out and spend the rest of my life feeling badly about it. I’ll just have to say thank you to all the folks I’ve worked with. It’s been a blast. Thanks to my family too for never asking me “When are you going to get a real job?”  And of course, a special thanks to you for sharing your laughter and your tears with me and letting me be a part of your day. You know there were a few times when I was sitting in the studio wondering if anybody was listening. That’s when the request line would ring and you’d tell me you loved the music I was playing or something silly I said made you laugh. Thank you, Ed Perry, for keeping me gainfully employed all these years. You march to your own drummer and you let me march to mine. Christine James, there is no way to describe our friendship other than to say it is forever Missy. As for Mr. Dee (aka Bob), you are the love of my life.

I have to tell you I’m not saying goodbye because this is actually a semi-retirement. I’ll be filling in for vacations etc. So this is more like “I’ll see you around.”  Remember we’re all in this together. Let’s take care of each other and never take a single breath for granted.
