postheadericon Beacon Hill Blotter: “I’m just a bill…”

This week’s posting for the BHB will be unique in that I have been extremely busy reviewing as many of the 5,258 bills introduced into the 187th General Court (for which final sponsorship was due this past Friday) and continue to be busy this weekend with commitments to Boss Academy, the studio my wife and I own – the winter recital is this weekend. Therefore, I’ll briefly review meetings and, most importantly, deliver on the transparency of government that I’ve promised you by posting (below) each and every bill I authored or for which am a co-sponsor.

Looking back and forward to the weeks’ activities;

Monday (1/31): Attended an Early Intervention briefing and was reunited with fellow LFA alum, Tim Seston, who was speaking as a parent who has benefitted from E.I.’s work. Later that evening, was honored to present certificates to the newly appointed Fire Chief of Abington, John Nuttall, as well as the retiring Dep. Chief John A. Weckbacher (35 years!).

Tue./Wed./Thu. (2/1-3): Snow prevented work at the State House, but spent each day at the district office (529 Washington Street, Whitman) to review bills & respond to constituent needs.

Friday (2/4): Started with a South Shore Chamber breakfast at Lombardo’s, featuring US Senator Scott Brown. Also had a chance to review my “Mortgage Relief” bill with Mutual Bank CEO Glenn White & staff. While there, Connie Symenow signed on as my new campaign Treasurer, taking over the great work done by Desie Collins for the past 2 years! Finally, I had firearm training with John Cesarini, an instructor at Holbrook Sportsman’s Club.

Monday (2/7): Will be having a morning breakfast with Congressman Bill Keating. That evening, I’ll be at the East Bridgewater town meeting, when the vote on the new high school project will take place.

Friday (2/11): The Friday Morning Group will meet at 1 Cranberry Hill in Lexington for their monthly meeting to discuss fiscal issues in the Commonwealth (sponsored by Citizens for Limited Taxation).

Sunday (2/13): I will be speaking at Anthony Cesarini’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor in Abington – a great privilege for such a conscientious young man!

There are other meetings throughout the week and I will relay those events in next week’s post. On to my legislative agenda… Please note the following as you review the bills listed below:

> I will explain in greater detail as time permits, in next week’s post, the background information for each bill. In the meantime, you can review them at the following link: http://www.malegislature.gov/Legislation (this link may be temp. down due to the fact that all legislation was finalized this past Friday, so you may need to check back later in the week)

>For most bills credited to Rep. Bradley H. Jones, Jr., these are “House Caucus” bills. For example, the “Perry Amendment” is important to all of us in the GOP caucus, so a joint bill was filed by the Minority Leader’s office staff so that we would have a clear, unified bill. It has to be recorded under one Rep’s name, so the Minority Leader is posted as the author.

> Bi-Partisanship. You’ll see not only that I’ve signed on to several bills filed by House and Senate Democrats, but that they have also signed on to several of my initiatives. This is no time to allow partisan bickering to dominate an agenda that HAS to focus on the needs of the Commonwealth in this time of financial uncertainty.

> If you don’t see a bill below that is important to you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that I don’t support it. I may, in fact, want to see if there are any modifications made during committee hearings that shape the bill because I may not like either wording or execution in its current form.

Best to you all and may we all have a break from snow for a little while, at least!
