State Senator Bob Hedlund will continue to represent Plymouth and Norfolk Senate Seat after an early win last night. Hedlund a Republican from Weymouth took on Independent Paul Kearney of Cohasset. Hedlund has served as state senator from 1991 to 1992 and then again from 1994 to 2010. The Plymouth and Norfolk district is made up of the towns Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Norwell, Scituate, Cohasset, and Weymouth.
Democratic Senate President Therese Murray was reelected to the Plymouth and Barnstable senate seat last night. Murray, of Plymouth has served in the state senate for 18 years. She won over Republican challenger Tom Keyes. The Plymouth and Barnstable state senate district, which includes Bourne, Falmouth, Kingston, Pembroke, Plymouth, Plympton, Sandwich, and Barnstable precincts 10, 11 and 12.
The widow of the recently deceased 5th Plymouth District seat holder has been elected as his successor. Democrat Rhonda Nyman, of Hanover, was elected to the 5th Plymouth District. Nyman is the widow of the late Representative Bob Nyman, who died suddenly earlier this year. Nyman beat Republican Korey Welch and write-in candidate Ian Davis. The 5th Plymouth District the towns of Hanover, Norwell and Rockland.
