In Plymouth, recently re-elected County Commissioner Sandra Wright was sworn-in at a meeting of the County Commissioners on Friday, the 6th.

Her first order business was to nominate Commissioner Jared Valanzola to Chair the group going forward.

Bobbi Clark files this report:

Commissioner Greg Hanley was absent, so after the votes of those present were counted, Valanzola took over as Chair:

“I’m excited to be able to lead this Board, recognizing that we’re still three individual members and that we have our own strong skill sets,” said Valanzola.

Some might say that it’s been a difficult year due to the controversy over the potential use of the woodlot as a horse racing facility, but Valanzola says the Commissioners have had a great year:

“…as a County and as a group. It’s been off to a great start. As it relates to the woodlot project, certainly, we are excited to continue to work with Boston South, work with the Town of Plymouth, and work with the greater region as a whole to continue to potentially explore executing an economic engine at that site—whether that be horse racing, or a ballpark, or golf, or whatever the group may decide.”

In other business, the Town of Cohasset is attempting to pass a bylaw to restrict the Town of Scituate from being able to clam in certain parts of their waters. And Valanzola says:

“Where that becomes interesting is, most folks aren’t aware Cohasset is an exclave of Norfolk County. Cohasset is not in Plymouth County. So the Town of Scituate reached to out to ask Plymouth County’s support.”

It was determined that County Administrator Frank Basler will send a letter to Attorney General-Elect Andrea Campbell asking her office to reject the bylaw.

The County Commissioners meet next on January 19th at 5:30 p.m.
