Join Mass Audubon for the “Hoot and Howl Family Owl Prowl” this evening from 5 to 6:30pm for a howling good time as you’ll prowl about the North River Wildlife Sanctuary in search of some special creatures of the night. You’ll seek out the great horned and screech owl, learning their calls and why they’re so well adapted to the nocturnal life. Then you’ll finish off the evening with some hot cocoa and an owl craft. (Appropriate for children 4 and older.)  The event is $10; $7 for Mass Audubon members. Join DCR staff today from 1:00pm to 2:30pm for a fun and frosty trek exploring our winter trees, shrubs, and groundcover (if they’re not covered by snow!). Meet at the Visitor Center for this winter hike through Wompatuck State Park.  For adults and children 8+. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy winter footwear. Rain, snow, or icy trails will cancel. Call (508) 866-2580 x162 for more information and for weather cancellation. Sunday January 15th, 2012:

Upcoming:
Mass Audubon of Marshfield invites you to “A Nutty Celebration” on Saturday January 21st from 10:30am to 12:00noon. That’s right, it’s Squirrel Appreciation Day, and they’re throwing a party for the squirrels! Despite their unpopularity with gardeners and many people who feed birds, these tree climbing, chitter-chattering, nut gathering mammals not only have some amazing adaptations, but they’re pretty entertaining to observe. Through activities, crafts, and trail explorations, come join the fun and experience a day in the life of a squirrel! The event is $10; $7 for Mass Audubon members. For more information, visit www.massaudubon.org/southshore or contact Amy Quist at 781-837-9400 or aquist@massaudubon.org
