Saturday April 27th, 2013:
Check out the “Feed the Animals” event today at 10:00am. Visit as the naturalists take time to stop and visit with all of the animals and give them what they need most – food! The Duxbury Arts Boosters are holding the “Duxbury Youth Art Fair” today from 10:00am to 2:00pm. A refreshingly unique craft fair as it only has products made and created by youths ages 9-19. It will be a great day to come support South Shore (and beyond) kids and teens who will be showcasing their talent and selling their items such as hair accessories, album art, painting, photography, jewelry, knitting, sewing and more. The event is open to the public, no admission charge for shoppers. Food and beverages for sale plus performances, prize giveaways and fun crafty activities! There’s a horseback riding clinic today from 2:00 to 3:30pm at Furnace Brook Farm in Marshfield. Ms. Erin Van Steenburgh is a Massachusetts Licensed Riding Instructor who hold two national titles and has run riding camps for years. The fee is $5 per family. Learn about riding styles and forms, types of horses, ponies, care, feeding, grooming, and expenses. Enjoy a riding demonstration and perhaps more! Minimum of 5 and maximum of 15 participants. Remember to bring your camera!! This program is held rain or shine at Furnace Brook Farm, 253 Sandy Hill Drive in Marshfield. Earth Day is officially in April, but at Soule Homestead Education Center in Middleboro, the event will be held rain or shine on Saturday, May 11th. There will be activities and programs on a wide variety of practices pertaining primarily to sheep farming, shearing, and the processing of wool. Ongoing demonstrations will include spinning, weaving, rug hooking and rug braiding. Activities especially for children are washing fleece, carding, spinning and felting wool, along with making crafts using wool and recycled materials. The day will also include a variety of handcrafts made by local artisans and locally grown perennial plants for sale. Hot dogs and refreshments will be available. Admission is $5 per adult; $2 per child (under 12 years); children under 3 free. Soule Homestead is located at 46 Soule Street in Middleboro.
