Have you seen the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at The Roger Williams Zoo in Rhode Island? Running through Sunday, November 3, you can witness a breathtaking display of 5,000 illuminated jack-o-lanterns representing regions of the USA in a spectacular exhibit entitled Pumpkinville USA. Intricate pumpkin art will represent regions of the country, highlighting their unique attributes and as well as historical and cultural landmarks of each of the states from the Heartland, Pacific Coast, Mid-Atlantic, New England and Appalachian Highlands. One scene will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and another will honor President Kennedy. Plimoth Plantation is hosting Sampe Fest today! It’s a celebration of their newest exhibit – Plimoth Grist Mill and all Things Corn. Sampe is ground corn, much like grits, and was a dietary staple of both the Pilgrims and Native Wampanoag people. Plimoth Plantation will host Sampe Fest on November 2, 2013 in celebration of the first season of Plimoth Grist Mill – the Museum’s newest living exhibit. Watch the Miller move the 2,200 pound stone, harness the power of the Town Brook and grind corn. Highlights include: Live music, crafts for kids, cooking demonstrations and delicious treats from local vendors. Tickets are $6 with a discounted rate of $2.50 for Plymouth residents. It’s a good day to learn valuable tips on fire safety and prevention at The Independence Mall, 101 Independence Mall Way, in Kingston! Kids can check out a cool fire truck from Mike at A Fire Truck for All Occasions and there will be two fire safety presentations at 12:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. The day includes lots of free activities and kids get a badge too. It’s the 5k Run by The Bay and Kids Fun Run in honor of Royce Whitaker whose life was cut short in 2009. Sunday is a great day to get out with the family and run or walk the 5k course which begins at Bay Farm Montessori Academy and takes place along beautiful Bay Road in Duxbury. Registration begins at 8:30, the Kids Fun Run begins at 9:30 and the USATF-certified 5k begins at 10:15 a.m. For more details about the run visit bfarm.org.
