Spend a night under the stars at the South Shore Natural Science Center in Norwell! Join us for the Greatest Show Above Earth!  Every year during the second week in August, the Perseid Meteor Showers dazzle the observers with shooting stars.  Spend an evening with us learning about this amazing phenomenon, scanning the skies for meteors, and using our telescopes to look at planets and stars. The evening program includes s’mores and stories around the campfire. Overnighters will also enjoy a hearty breakfast followed by a morning hike. Geared toward kids 5 and up accompanied by an adult. Saturday, August 9, 2014:
Head to the South Shore Children’s Museum Grand Re-Opening today at 10 am at the Hanover Mall! The museum is in a new, larger space in the Macy’s wing and new exhibits include a life-sized covered wagon and prairie laundry exhibit with a working wooden well! There will be lots of craft activities and treats too. In addition to the grand re-opening there is a back to school event from 11-3 inside the Hanover Mall including back to school coupons, a sidewalk sale, a fashion show and musical performances. Bring your family and join a South Shore Natural Science Center Naturalist for a guided hike to explore the wonders of Jacob’s Pond. Discover why the pond is here, where the boulders came from, and what animals call this area home as well as other important questions. Trails are uneven so bring your boots. Suitable for families with children age 5 and up. You’ll meet at the Jacob’s Pond parking lot. $10/family/Full Member, $15/family/Non Member.

Here’s a chance to see Soule Homestead in a different light with a walk to the backfields under the light of the August full moon.  Education Director, Laurie Amberman, will lead a guided hike on Saturday, August 9th between the hours of 8 and 9 p.m. at the center located at 46 Soule Street in Middleboro. Sunday, August 10, 2014:

Enjoy the sounds of summer at the Marshfield Town Green for the final Family Night concert on Sunday night! At 5pm kick off the night with a performance by the Dunleavy Shaffer School of Irish Dance! And at 6pm you’ll hear The Fathoms, a modern day surf band. The recreation staff will be firing up the grill and serving Nathan’s all beef hot dogs, chips and a drink for only $1.00.
