Friday August 29

Check out Tales from the Wild at the South Shore Natural Science Center! Children ages 3-5 will love joining the SSNSC for their stories about animals and nature – check it out from 10:30-11:00 am, no pre-registration is required, and the event is free with admission. How about a Farmer’s Market? Marshfield is holding their weekly summer farmer’s market at the Marshfield Fairgrounds from 2:00-6:00 pm. The event includes live music, kids crafts, and local food and artisan products from the area. For more info visit www.marshfieldfair.org/fm.htm.

Don’t forget something for the teens! Carousel Family Fun Center is holding a Teen Skate from 7-10 pm at their location in Whitman. No registration is necessary, just show up! Cost is $10 per person and $3 for skate rentals.

 

Saturday August 30

Make a beach mobile with teacher and naturalist Kathy Kay! Create your own fun mobile for your room or porch using shells and found objects. Find her at the East Side of Powder Point Bridge at Duxbury Beach from 9:30-11:00 am. Drop-ins are welcome, for more info on this free Mass Audubon sponsored event contact (781)-837-9400.

How about an Open Barnyard at Weir River Farm in Hingham? Introduce your children to some farm animals between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. All are welcome, just feel free to drop in! Cost for non-members is $3, for more info call (781)-740-7233. Parking is at 140 Turkey Hill Lane in Hingham.

If you’re looking for a truly worthy cause, head to the Craft Fair & Fundraiser to Benefit Local Animal Rescue at the Whitman VFW. Head to Whitman for family fun including music, a bouncy house, face painting, food and more! Just show up, the cost is $10 per person donation and children under 12 are free! The event runs from 2:00 – 8:00 pm at 95 Essex St. Whitman.

 

Sunday August 31

Check out the Lady in Black story on Georges Island – join Park Rangers as they share this famous folklore tale of the ghost that haunts Fort Warren. They will share this story before leading the group through the dark tunnels of the fort. The event is designed for children ages 5-15 and runs from 2:15-2:45 pm. Take the park ferry to this program. The event is free but ferry fees apply.
