King Richard’s Faire is back for the 36th year and is open through Sunday, October 22. Minstrels, knights, fire-eating entertainers, frolicking faeries, talented dancers and artisans and animals galore are a part of the faire which allows you to travel back in time and escape reality on 80 acres of enchanted woods in Carver. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $32 for adults and $16 for kids 4-11 – cash only. The Department of Conservation and Recreation in Duxbury will be opening Myles Standish Monument Saturdays and Sundays in the month of September from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors will be able to climb the 125 steps of the Myles Standish Monument to the top, where there is a small viewing area allowing visitors to take in the beautiful panoramic view of the fall foliage of Southeastern Massachusetts, from the Blue Hills to Cape Cod. Built in 1898, this 116-foot granite monument was built in honor of its namesake, Captain Myles Standish who arrived on the shores of a new world with the Pilgrims in 1620. Located on Crescent Street in Duxbury, there is no charge to access the monument. The monument is not wheelchair accessible. No restroom on site. Thunderstorms and heavy rain will close the monument. Today the South Shore YMCA celebrates its 125th birthday and you’re invited! Both the Quincy and Emilson (Hanover) branches will be party-central from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. It’s free and open to the entire community. The 16th annual Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race (5k) Walk and Family Day is today beginning at 9:00 a.m. in Abington. There will be prizes, music, games, kids’ run, free refreshments and fun for the whole family! Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Abington Food Pantry. Today is National Grandparent’s Day and the Hull Lifesaving Museum is inviting grandparents to come and spend the day with your grandkids at the museum. Together you will learn about shipwrecks and lifesaving in Boston Harbor, explore boar design and build a T12 model sailboat that sails beautifully – a wonderful keepsake! The cost is $50 per child and includes the T12 model boat to build and take home.  Program geared toward kids ages 5 and older with a grandparent. Pre-registration is required.

The South Shore Natural Science Center’s 41st annual Corn Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, September 16th and 17th from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The Corn Festival celebrates the fall harvest and the natural and cultural heritage of New England. The activities include hay rides, pony rides, drumming, craft demonstrations, 4-H animals and demonstrations and kids’ activities as well as food and drink. The Endless Summer Waterfront Festival takes place along Nantasket Beach in Hull Saturday, September 16th from noon until 5:00 p.m. The day includes fun events for the kids like the Kids Create Art Center and sidewalk chalk and hula hoop contests, as well as hot dog and pizza eating contests. The Professional Firefighters of Hanover invite you to their 6th annual Touch-A-Truck from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Sylvester Field for “The Biggest Touch A Truck in the area!” This event will once again feature over 50 vehicles from private and public organizations, on display for you to get up close to, explore and touch! The day is much more than just a typical touch a truck event and offers fun for the entire family. Along with the trucks, there will be vendors and other organizations set up to showcase their family friendly goods and services. Food, snacks and beverages will be available. They’ll have bounce houses, balloon artists, face painting and other activities. Music, entertainment and much more! 
The event is a fundraiser for the community. This year, proceeds will go toward Hanover Build The Boards! In previous years, proceeds have gone toward the American Cancer Foundation, Hanover Food Pantry and Hanover Parks & Recreation. For details follow the event on Facebook.

The Children’s Museum in Boston costs $1 to enter Fridays from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.! Current exhibits include Explore-a-Saurus where you can assume the role of scientist and explore the evidence, the science and the features that make dinosaurs so compelling. You can touch and measure a fossil footprint and learn what clues it gives about a dinosaur’s size. You can manipulate a full-size model and learn how they moved and rearrange bone puzzles to learn about dinosaur anatomy.
