For something different in the city, head to City Hall Plaza for Boston Winter, now in its second year! Now through the end of the month you can visit the holiday market with many lovely vendors, a Santa House, a Bavarian Village and also features a mix of winter activities including a skating path!

 

Head to the Stone Zoo for ZooLights from now until the end of the month each night from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Stroll along tree-lined paths lit by thousands of twinkling lights. New this year you can visit black bears, Smoky and Bubba, in the festively decorated area along their exhibit. Stroll through the beautifully lit Yukon Creek and see bald eagles, Canada lynx, arctic foxes and reindeer! The cost is $10 for adult non-members and $9 for adult members, $9 for senior non-members, $8 for senior members, $8 for child non-members and $7 for children members. Kids under 2 are free! Bubbleology at the South Shore Natural Science Center is back today! Two sessions:  11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  Reservations strongly encouraged as this program sells out! Ideal for kids ages three and older, come explore the secret world of bubbles with state of the art soap bubble sculptures! From bubbles as big as bathtubs to fog-filled spinning geometric shapes, Keith Johnson will have you and the kids roaring with laughter and you’ll discover hot to continue the experiments at home!! Plymouth Winter Fest 2017 takes place today from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Main Street. There will be street performers and musicians, a laser light show on the Town Hall Green and an aerial show at Memorial Hall where an “instant circus” takes place at 5:30 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m. Stroll Main Street for bubbles of all shapes and sizes, balloon twisting, face painting and more!

 

Sunday, December 31, 2017:

Today is the annual family New Year’s party at the Children’s Museum in Easton from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. It’s a day-long celebration with crafts, games, activities, magic shows and periodic countdown and confetti blasts at noon, 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Food and drink available for purchase and Awesome Robb’s Magic Shows throughout the day beginning at 11:00 a.m. Admission is $10 per person. http://childrensmuseumineaston.org/family-new-years-party/

 

 

Monday, January 1, 2018:

The Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands will host their annual New Year’s Day excursion to Thompson Island on January 1st! Pricing and ticket information available online: http://www.fbhi.org/index.html

 

Grab your snow shoes, hiking boots or cross country skis and get the family outside to celebrate the New Year at Weir River Farm in Hingham with their reindeer quest! Seek out their herd of wooden reindeer sculptures found throughout the Grass Rides. See how many you can find and leave a bell around each one’s neck (bells are at the bulletin board in the parking lot near the greenhouse). This free family fun is a self-guided program beginning at the 140 Turkey Hill Lane entrance and heading down the farm “chute” path. Note the barnyard itself will be closed today.

 

Start your new year off at World’s End in Hingham today from 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. for a sunrise hike! This is a unique opportunity to gain early access to World’s End and share a memorable experience with family and friends. Hot coffee and cocoa will be available at the gatehouse before and after the hike to keep the walk extra warm. Pre-registration is recommended but day-of sign-ups are allowed. World’s End Full Moon Hike takes place tonight from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Hingham. This winter season World’s End will open their gate after hours to accompany a World’s End Ranger for a full moon hike on their century – old paths where World’s End comes alive at night with wildlife! You could spot a white tailed deer, red fox, raccoons, barred owls and other nocturnal wildlife native to the woodland. Bring a flash light to see World’s end like never before! Upcoming Activities:

The James Library & Center for the Arts is hosting creative kids art classes Saturdays in January! The 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. is when the program, designed for kids ages 8 – 14, runs in Norwell. This 4-day art series is run by award-winning artists Lisa Flynn and Karen baker. Kids will work on their own pieces, exploring and creating with a variety of mediums. At the end of the series kids can choose to display some of their artwork at the James!! The fee covers all art supplies. Space is limited and you can register per class for $20 or sign up for all 4 classes for $75.
