Saturday, May 12:

Head to Weir River Farm for the open barnyard at 140 Turkey Hill Lane in Hingham from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. You can meet Nutmeg the pony, Billy the goat and all the other barnyard regulars. Kids can brush goats, make a barnyard craft, pet chickens and more! Head to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Farms annual spring festival today from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at 74 Obery Street in Plymouth. There will be canine demos, New England Wildlife demos, touch a truck opportunities and crafts for the kiddos. Check out the petting zoo, too. If you’re looking for flowers and shrubs for your yard, look no further – the greenhouses are packed with colorful annual and perennial plants just in time for Mother’s Day. 

Keep your reading skill sharp by reading to Luke, a gentle and charming Goldendoodle! Luke is a certified reading and therapy dog and will be at the Hingham Library today from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. for 15-minute “listening” sessions. This program is great for kids ages 4 and up and offers a comfortable and safe space to practice reading. It’s the 3rd annual wake up the farm at the Jacobs Farmhouse in Norwell today from 8:00 – 11:30 a.m. There will be an organic seedling sale as well as CSA and workshop sign ups. Music and food and drinks for sale as well as pies and baked goods, too. Potted gifts for mom, along with yard sale and antiques and art, too. Fun for the whole family. 

Sunday, May 13: Happy Mother’s Day!

Celebrate Mother’s Day with a delicious brunch followed by a walk in the woods at the Norman Smith Environmental Education Center in the Blue Hills Reservation! You’ll begin at 10:30 a.m. with a leisurely breakfast featuring pancakes, fruit, juice, milk and a variety of hot beverages. After, go on a guided hike led by a naturalist. You’ll search out spring wildflowers, look for returning spring birds, and enjoy the splendid view from the top of Chickatabut Hill! This program is ideal for kids 3 and older and the cost is $15 for adult members and $10 for child members; $18 for adult nonmembers and $13 for child nonmembers. The Mary M.B. Wakefield Charitable Trust, located at 1465 Brush Hill Road in Milton, is holding their 2nd annual Mother’s Day Tea today at 3:00 p.m. in the Front Garden. $10 requested donation for adults attending tea and children are welcome. Reservations are requested if you are planning to join the tea, but are not needed to enjoy a walk during Open Hours which will be 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Been to the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton? Children under 12 are admitted for free and everyone is admitted for free Thursdays from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Admission is free for Brockton residents! www.fullercraft.org 

The Children’s Museum in Boston costs $1 to enter Fridays from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.! Current exhibits include Explore-a-Saurus where you can assume the role of scientist and explore the evidence, the science and the features that make dinosaurs so compelling. You can touch and measure a fossil footprint and learn what clues it gives about a dinosaur’s size. You can manipulate a full-size model and learn how they moved and rearrange bone puzzles to learn about dinosaur anatomy.
