Abington: Substitute teacher investigated for inappropriate Facebook contact with student

A substitute teacher and tennis coach at Abington high school has been ordered to stay off school grounds, following a report of inappropriate correspondence with a student earlier this week.

“A high school student had alleged that they had received inappropriate communications via Facebook from Mr. Jon O’Keefe, a prior substitute teacher and tennis coach,” said Abington School Superintendent Peter Shafer.

Shafer emphasized that the school’s primary responsibilty is the protection of their students.

“We immediately began an investigation and relieved him of his responsibilities, and pending the outcome of the investigation, ordered him off of school property and also immediately contacted the police department.”

Parents were notified Wednesday afternoon of the situation.
