Brockton Superior Court: Witness in Rockland murder trial testifies that he tampered with crime scene

Tina Gonsalves was fatally shot inside her Rockland apartment in 2011.

Her kids were home at the time of the shooting including her adult son, Aaron Dorsett, as well as Dorsett’s friend, John Thompson.

Thompson testified in Brockton Superior Court Wednesday that he slept over Gonsalves’ the night of July 7, 2011 and woke up to the sound of Dorsett and the accused gunman, Orlando Kavanaugh, wrestling.

He then heard gunshots and saw 36-year-old Gonsalves lying on the floor.

When Thompson was questioned by Kavanaugh’s defense attorney, he admitted that he and Dorsett told police a fake story that Kavanaugh was holding two guns when he allegedly broke into the apartment.

Thompson corrected his story and testified that Kavanaugh was only holding one gun, the other belongs to Dorsett.

Thompson and Dorsett attempted to hide the gun but police later found the weapon in an apartment unit upstairs.

Kavanaugh and Terrell Nicholas are both charged with murder and home invasion. Nicholas was allegedly waiting for Kavanaugh in a pickup truck outside.
