Boston: Wynn’s casino project faces new hurdles

(AP) — Wynn Resorts may have won the competition for the lucrative Boston area casino license with its $1.6 billion casino plan for the Everett waterfront, but it still faces hurdles.

Somerville filed a lawsuit this month asking a state court judge to vacate the state Gaming Commission’s decision to award Wynn’s license. The suit follows one filed in October by the city of Revere.

Meanwhile, the gambling commission’s staff says it is closely watching as federal authorities appear to be investigating whether the Las Vegas-based gambling giant violated money laundering laws.

Those developments come as the casino is focused on cleaning up the polluted former chemical plant site ahead of groundbreaking. It is also still in talks with Boston on a possible compensation agreement for traffic and other impacts.
