 Ziggy Marley

7 Time Grammy Award Winning musician Ziggy Marley is in town promoting his self titled 6th solo album, co-produced along with his brother Stephen Marley

David Nesta “Ziggy” Marley has won the “Best Reggae Album” Grammy Award 5 times ~ 3 with “Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers (along with siblings Sharon, Stephen and Cedella)” Love is My Religion (2006); And Fly Rasta (2015).   Ziggy Marley” dropped on May 20, 2016 at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Charts and is still sitting pretty at #2 after 3 weeks

Ziggy says he’s basically a shy person but has managed to push himself well beyond his comfort zone while creating this album and for the first time focus on issues outside of himself

“Everything happens when it’s meant to happen,” said Ziggy “That’s how my career has been since the beginning. Each project is inspired. There are metaphysical and universal things at work in all of our lives. It’s natural and organic. This album is another one of those moments. The message came to me. It’s here at the right time, and I’m ready to share it”

Ziggy went on to say that, “This album is about the struggle of humanity, I’m not singing about my own struggle but that of the human family—which I feel a strong connection to. I found myself emotionally and consciously affected by the plight of our species in general. We’re all family. We can’t let ego be the driver; truth has to be the driver. We have to help each other”

In his song, “Heaven Can’t Take It,”  Ziggy provides a vivid perspective, spotlighting his storytelling in the process. “I’m a spiritual person,” he admits. “My father speaks about it more than I do, but we come from the same place, and we’re messengers in this time and age. We’re conduits of higher forces. I wanted to paint a picture that heaven is telling us, ‘Enough killing.’ They’re going crazy up there. Heaven can’t take it anymore. It needs to stop”

Interestingly enough, Marley’s popular song off the release “Weekend’s Long” includes a coded reference of acceptance of homosexuality which is still considered illegal in Jamaica

Born in Trenchtown, Jamaica in 1968, Ziggy’s been performing for over 35 years.  As Founder of “Tuff Gong Worldwide” Marley maintains total control of his music and his legacy as was also the dream of his father legendary reggae star Bob Marley

Ziggy along with his wife Orly Agai have created quite a legacy dabbling in ventures such as Ziggy Marley Organics, Children’s books, Comic Book and most recently an acting gig on the popular CBS Show “Hawaii Five-O.”  Not to mention numerous philanthropic deeds and his own Foundation U.R.G.E.

The couple has a slew of beautiful children, Judah 10, sons Gideon 9, Abraham, 5 and most recent addition to his family, Isaiah Sion Robert Nesta Marley, born in March and named with a nod to his father Bob Marley.  Ziggy also has 3 older children from previous relationships ~ Zuri, Justice and Daniel “Bambaatta” Marley ~ a popular Reggae Artist in his own right

Does Ziggy Marley golf?  NO.  Is he willing to pick up a golf club at some point?  YES.  Does he watch golf on TV? NO.  Is he athletic?  YES.  Soccer is his game and he’s been known to hit the gym from time to time

That’s OK with me, Ziggy’s upbeat island melodies and healing voice manage to send messages of peace and love all the while weaving current global humanitarian issues of war and unrest into the fabric of the music in such a way so as one is not bogged down by harsh rhetoric of political stances and quite frankly his music just makes me smile!
