Marshfield: Blessing of the Fleet (Audio Interviews)

On Sunday in Marshfield, the annual Blessing of the Fleet took place to a huge crowd of onlookers from the pier. There were 75 boats of all shapes and sizes that paraded past Father Carmichael of St. Ann’s by the Sea Catholic Church in Marshfield who, with the help of Andrew Daponte, 13, and twins Emelia and Mary Daponte, 10, blessed every ship and and those on board.

Father Carmichael spoke to the crowd before the start of the parade of boats and the blessing:

Harbormaster Michael DiMeo spoke with WATD’s Bob Gohl after the blessing:

The weather was perfect for this year’s event with cool breezes and warm sunshine. At the conclusion of the blessing, the fisherman tied up together and partied into the night.
