Hanson: Possible Recall Petition

One Hanson resident is at least considering going forward with a recall petition for a member of the board of selectmen, chairman Jim McGahan.

Assistant Hanson Town Clerk Jean Kelly confirmed that a person did come into town hall to inquire about the recall process and get an information packet that outlines the steps.

The first step in the process is to gather 150 signatures — 25 from each precinct. So far, nothing has been turned in.

The request comes after a sometimes-contentious board of selectmen meeting earlier this week, when the entire town recreation commission submitted their resignations, over the ongoing investigation into Camp Kiwanee by the town’s legal council.

It’s not clear exactly what all the allegations are.

In a 2014 Hanson special election, Jim Mcgahan was voted into office and former selectman, Steve Amico was recalled.

At that time, McGahan told WATD that “I believe in democracy; I think we’ve seen it here today.”

“Maybe what we can start doing, I really hope folks, is bring this town together as best as possible and move forward on solutions to the problems that we have in our town.”

WATD has a phone call into Jim McGahan.
