MA: Congressman Keating Speaks Out Against FCC’s Decision to Repeal Net Neutrality

The Federal Communications Commission voted 3-2 Thursday to undo sweeping Obama-era “net neutrality” rules that guaranteed equal access to internet.

The agency got rid of rules that prevented internet providers from playing favorites with internet apps and sites.

Congressman Bill Keating has spoken out against the decision telling WATD News it will have major consequences for American society as a whole.

Keating says he will try and work with his Congressional colleagues to create legislation to undo this decision but he says it will not happen quickly.

While the 3-2 vote fell along party lines, with the agency’s Democratic commissioners dissenting, Keating believes legislative efforts in Congress will have bi-partisan support.

Keating also disputes Chairman Ajit Pai’s argument that to repeal net neutrality will eliminate unnecessary regulation.

Attorney General Maura Healey has announced that she plans to sue the FCC saying they have “completely failed to justify this decision,” and that the purpose of the lawsuit is “to stand up for the free exchange of ideas and to keep the American people in control of internet access.”
