Norwell: Detours, Lane Shifts Due To Work On Route 3

Motorists going through Norwell on Friday should be aware of detours that will be in place.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says that traffic will be shifted onto the temporary Route 3 northbound crossover over High St., between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Officials say various rolling roadblocks, controlled by police details, will take place on Route 3 northbound and traffic will remain in this configuration while the existing Route 3 northbound bridge over High St. is reconstructed.

During construction two lanes of travel will remain open, with the exception of limited overnight closures.

Peak hour breakdown lane use will be maintained.

Additional detours will be in place Monday night into Tuesday between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. with the road re-opening each morning.

Officials say the temporary detour in place for all motor vehicle traffic will go as follows:

For traffic traveling south on Washington St. (Rte. 53):

• Continue south on Washington St., past High St.;

• Turn right onto Webster St. (Rte 123);

• Turn right onto Main St., Hanover, and continue north onto High St. Norwell.

For traffic traveling north on Main St in Hanover:

• Turn right onto Webster St. (Rte. 123);

• Turn left onto Washington St. (Rte. 53) and continue north to High St. in Norwell.

Detour signs will be in place at Route 3 northbound over High St. for the duration of the bridge demolition operations.

Meanwhile on High St. the roadway will remain open to traffic on either side of the bridge for local traffic only.

Drivers are being told to expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

Work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted by an emergency situation.
