Pembroke: Man in Custody After Fleeing Scene of Car Crash on Route 3 North

The incident took place just after 7 a.m. when State Police received a report of a vehicle that had gone off the roadway and crashed into an embankment.

It was also reported that the man had fled the scene across Route 3.

State Police say the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Leon Baveas of New Bedford, was spotted and taken into custody after a pursuit and struggle where a trooper had to use an electronic control weapon.

Baveas is facing charges in connection with this incident; Operating on a Suspended/Revoked License, Resisting Arrest, Marked Lanes Violation, and Disorderly Conduct.

He was taken to South Shore Hospital where he is currently under arrest.

In addition State Police say Baveas has four outstanding warrants for charges including Breaking and Entering, Larceny, and Receiving Stolen Property.

He will be arraigned at a later date.

One person is in custody following a crash and foot pursuit in Pembroke this morning.

A car driving on Route 3 North spun around and crashed on the right side of the highway just past exit 12 causing heavy traffic delays.

Police report the driver then tried to leave the crash scene but was apprehended a little while later nearby.
