Plympton: Acting Fire Chief Relieved Of Duty

Plympton’s Fire Chief is no longer on the job.

Fire officials have confirmed that Acting Chief Phil Curran was relieved of duty as a result of a decision by selectmen in Executive Session.

The incident has been called a “personnel matter” and fire officials say it will not be discussed out of respect for Chief Curran.

WATD News has reached out to a member of the Board of Selectmen, but hasn’t heard back.

Plympton Fire Department’s post of Facebook last night, 5/21/18:

Good evening. We are aware that the news of the sudden departure of Acting Chief Phil Curran has become public. This was the result of a decision in executive session by Plympton Selectmen. Fire department leadership was made aware only after the actions were taken.

Please be assured: Your fire department stands – as always- at the ready to respond to your needs. Our daily operations continue as usual. Captain Cheryl Davis has agreed to oversee day to day operations. You should continue to feel safe and secure that our EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters are staffed and available to assist you 24/7/365 as usual.

Chief Curran was an intricate part of the growing success of this department and his departure is most assuredly a loss for us and for the town. The details of his relief of duty are a personnel matter and out of respect for Chief Curran will not be discussed. Continued dialog that includes conjecture, suppositions and speculation does nothing but add confusion to the matter. We will be as transparent as possible and communicate as often as needed. As citizens, you should direct any questions or concerns regarding this decision to the office of your Selectmen and town administrator.

As always, we welcome your comments but ask that they be respectful of the people involved.
