Halifax: Whitman Man Indicted In Connection With Deadly Crash

Brockton Trial Court

A Whitman man is facing charges in connection with a deadly crash in Halifax.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office says that a Plymouth County Grand Jury returned indictments against 51-year-old Alec Dowie on one count each of Manslaughter by Motor Vehicle and Operating Under the Influence, third offense.

The charges stem from a February 6th crash where emergency crews were sent to Monponsett St. for a two-car crash.

Police arrived on scene to find that Dowie’s 2018 Dodge Challenger crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2005 Honda being driven by 78-year-old Richard March.

Both drivers were taken from the crash scene for treatment, with March being transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston where he later died from his injuries.

An investigation found that Dowie had a Blood Alcohol Content Level of 0.084.

He also tested positive for Fentanyl, Heroin, Cocaine and Opiates in his system and told investigators that he took a Percocet prior to the crash.

The District Attorney’s Office says Dowie will be arraigned in Brockton Superior Court at a later date.
