Halifax: Connecticut Murder Suspect Arrested

A murder suspect has been arrested in Halifax.

Halifax Police say they were taking part in a multi-town investigation into multiple house and 54 car breaks in the Brandeis Circle area of town.

At around 3:30 a.m. this morning (Tuesday) a suspect, 18-year-old Jamir Johnson, was seen riding a bicycle thru the neighborhood wearing rubber gloves and other clothing similar to those seen in a surveillance video at one of the victim’s homes.

Johnson was stopped by officers and taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

As he was being booked it was discovered that Johnson had an outstanding warrant out of New London, Connecticut, in connection with a December 9th 2017 murder.

Johnson will be arranged in Plymouth District Court on charges of breaking and entering, possession of burglarious tools, failure to identify, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and fugitive from justice.

He is being held on $50,000 bail and additionally without bail on the fugitive from justice charge out of Connecticut. He will be taken back to Connecticut to face murder charges, possession of a pistol without a permit and unlawful discharge of a firearm.. It is not clear Johnson has an attorney.

“On a side note, as the Police Chief, I would like to apologize to the residents for not being forthcoming with information about how we investigate and deal with this sort of crime, I hope the people understand our silence when trying to apprehend these criminals. But mostly I want everyone to know the diligence and work ethic of your police officers, if it wasn’t for their commitment to the town and its citizens this alleged murderer would still be roaming our streets while we sleep. It was a job well done by all.”
