Crews were called to a fire at a Whitman laundry mat early Friday morning.

Fire officials say that shortly before 12:30 a.m. they received a report of a fire at Larry’s Laundrette, at 261 Washington St.

When crews arrived on scene they saw smoke coming from the building.

Firefighters gained entry and were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

Officials say an initial investigation has determined that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a dryer motor.

The flames then extended to the ceiling and up to the roof line causing roughly $25,000 in damage.

The laundromat was not open and the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Mutual aid was provided by Hanson, East Bridgewater, and Abington.
